They make a ';hose'; that clamps onto the tub spout. It has a shower head on the end. You can put a hook in the ceiling or on the wall and hang it there. look around there are options for us short versus them the tall. its a bar that the shower head slides on....
When you say ';old fashioned';, I assume that you're talking about something that is free standing, away from the wall, and has ball-and-claw feet on it. Go to your nearest home improvement store, and ask someone im plumbing. Make sure that you get something in chrome, so it matches your current hardware. These things are designed to be user friendly, and often you can get one that is extremely easy to attatch. Also get solder, flux, sandpaper, and a blowtorch if needed. Your home improvement professional will tell you how to use it, and it's not hard at all. This is a 30 minute job, and you can use the shower that day.
