Bath tub drain wont drain?

my tub is over 50 years old and it is in excellent condition. but it doesnt have a stopper that normal drains have. its on open hole. now, the drain is usually closed and the head of it where you open and close it does not work and i have none of the tools needed nor the money to replace it. what can I do?Bath tub drain wont drain?
I agree with the rubber stopper solution until you can get the fixtures replaced. Now for the drainage problem. Your drain is probably clogged with hair. Walmart has a hook remover in the sporting goods section that looks like a small needle nose pliers. It is basically a hemostat.

Use this to reach down into the drain and pull out the hair. It is gross, but it will clear your drain. Been there, done that.Bath tub drain wont drain?
The real problem is that your plumbing is over 50 years old. Be extra careful as your plumbing is likely brittle and will break easily. You could remove the overflow cover with a flat head screw driver and remove the waste and overflow plug that should be attached to a rod or chain, if I understand you correctly.
If you have no tools and no money, and apparently no one to help, then there's not much you can do but set and look at it.
how about a rubber stopper.... this will hold water when you want it too and drain when you remove it - cheap and inexpensive if you do not have the means to replace your tub drain........
You might try twisting the plug to remove it. That is how mine works.
ur bathtub sounds creepy and gross
